Our client is seeking a Director of Quality Engineering to join their team in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. This role is pivotal in ensuring all products developed meet required standards and can be produced efficiently in large scale manufacturing. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership, management, coaching and training of a team of quality engineers that include product engineering, package engineering and technical documentation. This leader will nurture relationships across the organisation and act as a trusted advisor to partners in sales, sourcing, design and quality assurance on all topics related to furniture engineering.

What you'll do:

As the Director of Quality Engineering, your role will be central to ensuring that all products developed meet required standards for large scale manufacturing. You will lead a team of quality engineers across multiple locations, driving continuous improvement in engineering processes. Your ability to build strong relationships will be key as you work closely with various departments including Product Development, Sourcing, Production leadership counterparts as well as US Sales teams. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing all engineering related issues, implementing corrective action plans where necessary and ensuring projects are completed on time.

  • Ensure all designs are vetted prior to initial customer sample creation and are value engineered for cost and production efficiency.
  • Lead QE team based in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and Dalingshan, China offices.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationship with Product Development, Sourcing and Production leadership counterparts as well as US Sales teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in our engineering processes and partner with cross-functional leaders to achieve excellence in our product offering.
  • Provide oversight to all engineering related issues, root cause analysis and corrective action planning and implementation where QE is either the accountable or responsible parties.
  • Build scalable team performance assessment framework and implement team training programs to elevate team and individual performance.
  • Ensure that the QE teams are following the proper timelines and getting projects completed on time.
  • Build solid relationships with third-party laboratory personnel, factory leadership and Customer QE personnel to enhance communication between the labs, our Customer’s QE teams and team.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Director of Quality Engineering role will bring a wealth of experience in furniture engineering management. With over 10 years in leadership roles, you will have advanced knowledge of materials used in wood, paper and metal furniture manufacturing as well as the manufacturing process itself. Your extensive experience managing large teams across multiple customers or furniture categories will be key in this role. You are comfortable travelling locally and internationally and working in factories for extended periods. Your technical skills include a working knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D Max, V-Ray and MS Office suite. You are detail-oriented, able to work under pressure and meet constant deadlines. Your language skills include the ability to read, write, and speak conversational English and Mandarin Chinese at an intermediate level.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university, or more than 15 years related experience.
  • 10+ years of management experience in furniture engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of materials used in wood, paper and metal furniture manufacturing.
  • Advanced knowledge of furniture manufacturing process, from rough mill through veneering and finishing, powder coating, assembly and packing etc.
  • Working knowledge of ISTA , BIFMA, UL, SOHO, ASTM, EN , and other standards for furniture.
  • Extensive experience managing a team of 15+ engineers across multiple customers and/or multiple furniture categories.
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally and to work in factories for extended periods of time.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D Max, V-Ray and MS Office suite is required.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work under pressure and with constant deadlines.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak conversational English, including technical terminology related to quality engineering.
