Legal and Compliance Director

One of the biggest group in food and beverage industry based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is calling applications for Legal and Compliance Director.

About the Legal and Compliance Director:

You will report directly to Managing Director Vietnam and Regional Legal and Compliance Head. You will be responsible for legal and compliance issues for all legal entities (including controlled JVs) in Vietnam and for the attainment of the strategic legal and compliance goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure that the Vietnam legal organisation creates value, is cost efficient and contributes significantly to the group accomplishing its objectives and to the mitigation of material risks
• Be accountable for proactively driving the legal and compliance agenda in Vietnam in line with relevant business priorities and in an efficient manner
• Ensure that deliverables are integrated and aligned with Group Legal and Compliance strategy
• Responsible for leading, coaching and developing direct employees (if any) and for KPI setting
• Be accountable and responsible for total legal costs (both internal and external spend) in the country

To succeed in this Legal and Compliance Director position, you should have at least 10 years solid legal and compliance experience in a corporate environment in any industry preferably in similar position for the last 3 years (Director, Head of Legal).

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in Law
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Vietnamese (both mandatory)
• Structured and able to handle many complex tasks at once in a dynamic, business-driven environment. Able to act as partner to local business, providing relevant legal advice and push-back when needed
• Demonstrates legal precision, sound judgement, strategic competences and pragmatism as well as strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills
• Proven track record of (i) relevant legal experience, including within company law and contract law, (ii) within several compliance areas (competition law, data protection, ABC and trade sanctions) and (iii) with dispute resolution
• Demonstrates distinct business acumen and determination, combined with a sense of urgency and a positive can-do attitude
• Able to prioritise and take management’s demands into account, positioning legal as a business advisory function
• Proactive in addressing relevant opportunities, issues and risks and seek solutions to the same, becoming a trusted legal advisor to the business
• A good leader and committed team player. A believer in trust and empowerment, who can coach, develop and motivate the future talents of group legal and compliance
• Trustworthy and loyal, with due backbone and gravitas. Accountability and ability to stand ground at times of high pressure
• International and holistic mind-set
• Well-rounded and mature personality, calm and resilient, with excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
