Tax Director (Global Company)

Save job

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Tax Director to join a highly respected multinational organisation in Ho Chi Minh. This pivotal role is designed for an accomplished tax professional who thrives on providing independent, commercially pragmatic, and solution-oriented guidance to support business objectives while ensuring robust governance and compliance.

What you'll do:

As Tax Director based in Ho Chi Minh City, you will play an instrumental role in guiding the organisation’s approach to taxation across its Vietnamese operations. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating closely with finance leaders to ensure that all aspects of taxation are considered in commercial decision-making. You will be responsible for monitoring legislative changes that could affect the business landscape while providing actionable insights to senior management. By leading internal control programmes and engaging regularly with both internal stakeholders and external advisors, you will help maintain rigorous standards of compliance. Your ability to manage complex relationships—internally across departments as well as externally with auditors and regulators—will be crucial in safeguarding the company’s interests. Success in this role will require you to balance technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills as you drive forward key projects that underpin the organisation’s long-term strategy.

  • Provide strategic and commercially aligned tax leadership on major commercial and strategic projects, ensuring tax considerations are embedded in all business decisions and execution plans.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in tax legislation and policy, proactively assessing their impact on the business and advising leadership on risks, opportunities, and required actions.
  • Oversee the governance of intercompany and intragroup transactions by ensuring appropriate documentation, control frameworks, and assurance processes are maintained for compliance.
  • Lead internal control initiatives and tax health-check programmes, including oversight of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), identifying weaknesses, assessing risk exposure, and ensuring timely remediation.
  • Manage tax and treasury inputs into internal audits, external audits, and regulatory reviews with a focus on transparency, governance, and risk mitigation.
  • Review group tax reporting for the Vietnam cluster, including accurate accounting for tax effects, Pillar 2 requirements, tax risks, and provisions.
  • Act as the primary engagement lead with external tax advisors for Vietnam-related matters, overseeing advisor performance, quality of advice, cost management, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Partner with finance leadership teams to ensure consistent application of tax principles across the business while supporting knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Represent Vietnam’s positions in area-wide tax meetings, maintaining continuous engagement with area teams to ensure alignment with group policies and strategic objectives.
  • Manage relationships with banks, suppliers, insurers, and customers regarding tax, treasury, liquidity, foreign exchange, and insurance requirements.

What you bring:

  • Professionally qualified in accounting or law (such as CIMA, ACCA or CA) with substantial post-qualification experience in tax or treasury roles within multinational organisations or professional services firms.
  • Demonstrated experience operating at a business-partnering level by providing strategic input on tax matters to senior stakeholders within complex environments.
  • Excellent communication skills enabling you to clearly articulate intricate tax concepts to non-specialist audiences including senior management and external partners.
  • Comprehensive understanding of taxation principles combined with the ability to oversee technical work while focusing on risk assessment and commercial impact rather than operational processing.
  • Proven track record of interpreting new legislation or regulatory requirements into commercially relevant recommendations for business leaders.
  • Sound judgement when applying tax legislation pragmatically within an organisation’s risk appetite while considering broader commercial implications.
  • Experience initiating or overseeing effective tax planning initiatives that are compliant yet aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Solid grasp of finance alongside commercial acumen allowing meaningful contributions to cross-functional projects involving legal or economic considerations.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities paired with a solution-oriented mindset that balances risk management against evolving business needs.
  • Effective negotiation skills particularly when dealing with government authorities or regulatory bodies as well as managing relationships at senior levels.
