An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering Manager to play a pivotal role in establishing and growing a new technical team in Dong Nai. This is a unique chance to be the first on the ground, shaping the future of a newly relocated operation from China to Vietnam, focused on producing high-quality shoe components using advanced plastic and metal processes. The successful candidate will have the rare opportunity to build a team from scratch, influence operational strategy, and work closely with international colleagues across China and the United States. With flexible working opportunities as the entity grows, generous bonus potential, and comprehensive health insurance for you and your family upon full establishment, this position offers both professional challenge and personal reward. If you are passionate about mechanical engineering, thrive in collaborative environments, and are eager to make a tangible impact on a growing business, this could be your next career-defining move.

  • Be the founding member of a new technical team in Dong Nai, directly influencing the setup and growth of local operations as part of an international expansion project.
  • Enjoy significant autonomy and responsibility as you recruit, mentor, and develop a close-knit team while collaborating with regional leaders in China and product development experts in the US.
  • Benefit from a supportive leadership culture that values transparency, hands-on involvement, mutual respect, and offers comprehensive health insurance for you and your family once the local entity is fully established.

What you'll do:

As an Engineering Manager based in Dong Nai, you will take ownership of establishing robust manufacturing processes for shoe component production using advanced plastic injection techniques. Your day-to-day activities will involve building up a talented team from scratch—starting with two direct reports—and guiding them through every aspect of technical operations. You will collaborate extensively with cross-functional partners both locally and internationally to ensure seamless integration of design improvements into manufacturing workflows. Success in this role requires not only deep technical knowledge but also exceptional interpersonal skills; you will foster an environment where open communication, shared learning, and mutual support are at the heart of everything you do. By championing process optimisation initiatives and maintaining transparent reporting lines with regional leadership abroad, you will help lay the foundation for sustainable growth while ensuring that quality remains uncompromised at every step.

  • Oversee the technical setup of new manufacturing operations in Dong Nai by leveraging your expertise in mechanical engineering, particularly within plastic injection moulding and component production.
  • Recruit, train, and nurture a small but growing team of engineers and support staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and long-term success.
  • Act as the primary liaison between local Vietnamese contract manufacturers and regional management teams based in China, ensuring clear communication and alignment on production goals.
  • Review detailed design specifications provided by headquarters, applying your tuning skills to identify areas for improvement and implement effective solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with logistics, operational excellence (opex), and technical support colleagues to optimise workflow efficiency across all functions.
  • Report directly to the Product Commercial Manager based in China while maintaining strong working relationships with product development teams in the United States.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analysing production data, troubleshooting issues on the shop floor, and implementing best practices for quality assurance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety standards and company policies throughout every stage of production.
  • Contribute strategically to budget planning, resource allocation, and operational scaling as the team expands from its initial setup phase.
  • Participate actively in multi-stage interview processes for new hires as well as regular performance reviews for existing staff.

What you bring:

To excel as an Engineering Manager in this context, your background should reflect substantial exposure to mechanical engineering principles applied within high-volume manufacturing settings. Your practical understanding of plastic injection processes will allow you to quickly assess technical challenges while proposing actionable solutions that enhance product quality. Beyond technical prowess, your ability to connect empathetically with others—whether coaching junior staff or negotiating with suppliers—will set you apart as a trusted leader. You bring not only analytical thinking but also emotional intelligence; your approachability encourages open dialogue among team members who rely on your guidance during times of transition. Experience working within multicultural organisations will further equip you to navigate complex reporting lines spanning multiple countries. Ultimately, your commitment to nurturing talent while upholding rigorous standards ensures that both people and products reach their fullest potential.

  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering roles within manufacturing environments—especially those involving plastic injection moulding or similar processes—is essential for success in this position.
  • A proven track record of hands-on involvement with tuning equipment or improving design specifications is required to meet demanding product standards.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory due to frequent collaboration with international teams across China and the United States.
  • Previous experience managing or building teams—including recruitment, mentoring, training, and performance evaluation—will be highly valued.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to foster trust-based relationships with both internal colleagues and external contract manufacturers.
  • A strategic mindset combined with logical problem-solving abilities will enable you to contribute meaningfully to operational planning discussions.
  • Familiarity with contract manufacturing models—particularly within Vietnam’s industrial sector—will give you an advantage when navigating local supplier relationships.
  • Experience working under transparent leadership structures where mutual respect guides decision-making is preferred.
  • The ability to adapt quickly during periods of organisational change or rapid expansion is important given the evolving nature of this role.
  • Candidates should ideally be under 45 years old to align with succession planning objectives.
