Head of Planning and Performance Management (Financial Service)

What you'll do:
As Head of Planning and Performance Management you will orchestrate all aspects of strategic planning and performance monitoring for the retail banking segment. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with internal experts from finance to IT as well as external partners to gather critical data inputs. You will transform these insights into actionable plans that guide the division towards its objectives. By designing effective KPI frameworks and ensuring clear target allocations across teams, you will enable precise tracking of progress while maintaining flexibility to adjust course as needed. Your ability to manage complex review cycles—ensuring accurate reporting and timely interventions—will be essential for sustained success. - Lead the annual, quarterly, and monthly business planning cycles for the retail banking division in alignment with executive direction and organisational goals.
- Collect, standardise, and critically assess planning assumptions from various segments such as product lines, channels, customer journeys, compensation structures, and related departments.
- Develop comprehensive budgets and forecasts—including rolling forecasts—and scenario plans to adapt swiftly to market changes or shifts in resources or targets.
- Work closely with finance teams to ensure consistency in planning methodologies, financial targets, and budget principles across the entire organisation.
- Design and update KPI logic trees for the division covering segmentation, solutions, channels, journeys, costs, compensation structures, resource allocation, and profit & loss metrics.
- Allocate business targets clearly to execution units with defined ownerships, measurement periods, and transparent tracking mechanisms.
- Oversee resource planning including full-time equivalents (FTE), capacity management, budgeting for implementation of business plans.
- Prepare proposals for adjustments in targets or resources when significant changes arise in the operating environment.
- Manage regular performance reviews (monthly/quarterly), resource reviews, and results assessments as directed by senior leadership.
- Monitor plan versus actual outcomes; analyse variances; identify root causes and risks; coordinate timely corrective actions with relevant stakeholders.
What you bring:
- At least 8-10 years’ experience in financial services or banking with a focus on FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis), business performance management or MIS; minimum 3-5 years in a managerial or specialist leadership position.
- Proven track record in developing business plans, budgets, forecasts (including rolling forecasts), target allocation processes (MBR/QBR), and performance management within retail banking or financial institutions.
- Deep understanding of P&L management for retail banking including key indicators such as NII/NFI/NIM/CIR along with product/channel/segment/resource/cost effectiveness analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking or Business Administration; advanced certifications such as FP&A/CFA/CMA are highly desirable.
- Advanced skills in Excel/PowerPoint; familiarity with BI tools/dashboards; strong grasp of management information system requirements for effective reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to design KPI trees/scorecards; produce insightful management reports; conduct thorough plan vs actual analyses; synthesise findings into clear executive summaries.
- Excellent coordination skills for managing action plans across multiple stakeholders; adept at following up on responsibilities/timelines/outcomes with business owners.
- Exceptional written communication skills for preparing executive summaries and presenting complex issues clearly to senior leadership.
- Strategic thinking capabilities combined with analytical problem-solving skills; able to translate data into practical recommendations that drive results.
