The hiring market for tech and transformation professionals remains active and competitive, especially as the use of emerging technologies became more widespread in 2024.
“Across all sectors, businesses took even greater strides with their digital transformation. Demand for tech solutions and talent has been consistent since the pandemic,” recounts Phuc Pham, Country Manager at Robert Walters Vietnam. “However, the nature of hiring has shifted a little. The market has ramped up adoption of technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and blockchain, which now stand out as the most highly coveted skills in the industry.”

Heading into 2025, candidates may continue enjoying remote and flexible work arrangements, as Phuc believes that companies will keep providing flexibility to attract talent. There will also be a continued emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives because companies recognise that diverse teams make for a more innovative culture.
However, traditional qualifications may no longer be enough. Employers are now emphasising practical experience and competencies, so candidates need to showcase their expertise in specific technical skills instead of relying solely on degrees and certifications they have earned.
In response to intensifying cyber threats, companies will focus on hiring cybersecurity specialists who can help protect their digital assets and ensure compliance. They will also seek out data scientists as there is now a stronger reliance on data analytics in decision-making. As more AI applications come onto the market, Phuc also anticipates a rising need for AI and machine learning engineers who can develop and implement solutions with these technologies.
In the year ahead, the technical skills that companies are hiring the most for are proficiency in popular programming languages like JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, Goland and Python. Expertise in data analytics and machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow and R are also highly valuable. Companies also value candidates with knowledge of cloud computing platforms like AWS and Azure.
Candidates who present with soft skills like problem solving, analytical thinking, communication, adaptability and willingness to learn will stand out. This comes as companies expect candidates to collaborate across functions and keep up in a fast-paced environment.
Tech professionals are generally open to exploring new opportunities because they want to advance their careers and learn new skills. However, Phuc finds that they also tend to be careful about the career moves they make, prioritising opportunities that offer a positive work environment and growth potential.
With the market being so competitive, strong compensation alone is not enough to attract and retain top talent. Companies need to provide benefits that account for candidates’ other areas of concerns: work-life balance, workplace culture and learning opportunities.
“Provide flexible work hours and remote work options where possible to help employees find better work-life balance and wellbeing. On top of that, create pathways for professional development, like training programs, workshops and mentorship to help them upskill,” advises Phuc. “Lastly, aim to create an innovative work environment where employees feel free to flex their creativity and problem-solving skills.”
The hiring market will remain competitive in 2025, particularly for talent with specialised skills. As a result, salaries are expected to go up slightly.
