What you'll do:
As a Sourcing Engineer Electrical based in Ho Chi Minh City, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of large-scale building and infrastructure projects through effective supplier engagement and technical procurement. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you working alongside cross-functional teams to identify reliable suppliers across Asia-Pacific—especially China—while developing deep category knowledge of low-voltage electrical equipment. You will be instrumental in translating technical requirements into actionable RFQs, managing supplier communications from initial contact through contract finalisation. Your analytical skills will be put to use as you support cost analysis exercises and contribute to value engineering decisions. By participating in supplier audits and capability assessments, you will help ensure that only qualified partners are brought onboard. Your ability to coordinate between engineering design needs and commercial objectives will be essential as you maintain structured documentation for all sourcing activities. - Support sourcing activities throughout Asia-Pacific supply bases, particularly focusing on supplier identification, evaluation, and benchmarking by category and capability.
- Assist in dual-sourcing and risk-mitigation initiatives for key electrical components to ensure robust supply chains for ongoing projects.
- Participate actively in supplier selection processes aligned with evolving regional sourcing strategies and business needs.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of assigned product categories including cables, fire detection systems, switches, sockets, and related installation materials used in construction.
- Contribute to cost analysis by supporting reviews of manufacturing processes, material costs, and supplier cost breakdowns to drive value engineering discussions.
- Translate complex engineering and quality requirements into structured requests for quotation (RFQs), ensuring suppliers provide accurate quotations based on aligned specifications.
- Follow up diligently with suppliers to secure timely, complete, and compliant quotations while reviewing offers for technical consistency and commercial alignment before nomination.
- Support drafting and structuring of supplier agreements such as NDAs, MSAs, and sourcing contracts to ensure negotiated terms are clearly documented and contractualised.
- Participate in supplier qualification assessments, audits, factory visits, and onboarding processes for new regional or international suppliers.
- Collaborate closely with engineering on design feasibility studies and standardisation efforts while coordinating with procurement, costing teams, and quality assurance functions.
What you bring:
To excel as a Sourcing Engineer Electrical you will bring a blend of academic qualifications—ideally at Bachelor’s or Master’s level—and several years’ hands-on experience within technical sourcing or procurement engineering roles. - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial or related field) or equivalent experience relevant to technical sourcing roles.
- Three to seven years’ proven experience in technical sourcing, procurement engineering, supplier development or early-stage category structuring within non-transactional environments.
- Demonstrated exposure to international suppliers with cross-border sourcing experience across China, India or Southeast Asia regions.
- Hands-on experience working with mechanical or engineered products including fabricated components used in construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven ability to draft or support supplier contracts such as framework agreements or detailed sourcing agreements involving pricing schedules and technical annexes.
- Strong technical understanding of materials science and manufacturing processes relevant to electrical distribution equipment.
- Excellent skills in reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications and international standards applicable to electrical installations.
- Solid negotiation abilities combined with effective communication skills for engaging suppliers constructively across cultures.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail; comfortable using Excel for data analysis while ERP system exposure (SAP B1 & Navision) is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Professional proficiency in English is required; Vietnamese language skills are highly desirable while Chinese language proficiency would be considered a significant advantage.
