Database Operations Engineer (MariaDB & PostgreSQL)

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases in hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Huawei Cloud), ensuring high availability and SLA compliance.
• Analyze and resolve complex database performance issues including slow queries, locking, blocking, and deadlocks.
• Design and implement monitoring, alerting, and automated health checks, integrating with Prometheus and Grafana.
• Take ownership of P0/P1 incidents, lead incident response, and perform thorough root cause analysis (RCA).
• Architect and manage backup, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
• Define database standards, access controls, and provisioning processes to support multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
• Participate in and drive database migration initiatives from SQL Server to MariaDB or PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with DBA team members across different locations to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing.
• Ensure PDPA and data protection compliance, working closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors.

Requirements & Experience

Must Have

• 5+ years of experience administering databases in production and multi-tenant environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines (Master’s degree is a plus).
• Strong foundation in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, execution plans, and indexing strategies.
• Hands-on experience with database monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana).
• Solid understanding of backup/recovery, HA, and DR architectures.
• Proven experience handling critical incidents, crisis situations, and RCA processes.
• Experience building, mentoring, or leading technical teams.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and clear communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Deep experience administering MariaDB or PostgreSQL.
• Exposure to Kubernetes-based database operations.
• Experience working in multi-cloud environments (AWS, Huawei Cloud).
• Familiarity with GitOps and CI/CD workflows for database changes.
• Knowledge of PDPA and enterprise data protection standards.
• Scripting capabilities using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

Language Requirement

• Comfortable using English in a professional environment, including reading technical documentation and collaborating with international teams.
